"Education for Life" is the guiding principle that distinguishes Carteret Community College in the 21st century. Since its beginnings in 1963, Carteret Community College has been helping students prepare for a changing workforce and has set the standard for being "market responsive" by custom-building programs for employers and by delivering courses that align with current and future workplace needs. CCC is well-positioned to adapt to the region's changing economic dynamics. "Our dream is that all adults in Carteret County can have an opportunity to improve their lives through education because of Carteret Community College," says President Joe Barwick. The College is especially proud of its new Associate Degree in Nursing program, a collaborative undertaking with Carteret General Hospital, to produce qualified nursing staff. In addition, the College serves students who are pursuing careers in other health sciences disciplines, including Emergency Medical Sciences, Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing, Radiography and Respiratory Therapy. "We have a water-based environment and economy here in Carteret County, and the marine sciences are vital to our area," Dr. Barwick said. "In fact, Carteret County has more marine science assets than any other part of the state. As long as people have the skills to make, manufacture, rig or repair boats, they can find work here." The new North Carolina Marine Training and Education Center (NC MARTEC) on campus couples traditional craftsmanship with tomorrow's technology; it's becoming nationally recognized as a focal point for marine training and education, specializing in boat building and marine propulsion systems. CCC maintains a diversified curriculum of more than 100 course offerings, including programs that range from aquaculture technology, criminal justice and construction technology to hotel and restaurant management, horticulture, fine arts and the culinary arts. Additionally, a creative partnership with East Carolina University enables students to earn a B.S. degree in special education or elementary education without ever having to travel to the main campus in Greenville. For all these reasons and more, "Education for Life" comes to life at CCC. | | | | | | | | "CCC is recognized as a Superior Community College by the North Carolina Community College System. With 100 percent of employers surveyed satisfied with our customized training for their employees, and all of our graduates finding jobs, we are extremely proud of the state's recognition." Joe Barwick Just as boaters navigating the shifting shoals and swift currents of our shallow coastal waters depend on navigational aids, Carteret Community College also has a compass to help it steer the right course. With its compass pointing toward excellence, the College remains committed to helping the community and its citizens prosper and flourish. | | | | | | | | The learning environment is nurtured by experienced faculty members. | | | | | | Students experience the joy of discovery in the chemistry laboratory. | | | | | Carteret Community College: (252) 222-6000 www.carteret.edu | | | | |
