The Boat

The Pelican is an unsinkable 23 foot Parker center console boat that can navigate all depths of coastal and inshore waters. We pull right up to the beach to help you easily explore our many barrier islands. Ice and cooler space will be provided. Bring your own picnic and beverages. Dry storage for cameras and personal gear is available. Towels and a layering of clothes from bathing suit to a light jacket is suggested. A T-top provides partial shade, but don't forget the sunscreen.

The Captain

Captain Paul has over 25 years of boating and fishing experience in the local waters. He has the local knowledge, and the best boat design, to provide small groups personalized trips that will allow them to observe and learn about the ecology of the Crystal Coast. He has a strong love of the sea and will enthusiastically share his indepth knowledge of the natural world with others. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Masters LIcense and the Pelican carries all required safety equipment.

The Tour

Planning around wind, tides, and weather we will offer stops on barrier islands and marsh flats to look for and identify local sea creatures. This is a hands on, get in the water and get wet experience. We will be in and out of the boat using seines, dip nets, and throw nets to catch and study live specimens from our waters.

We will stop on islands and beaches, that are only accessible by boat, to look for seashells, sand dollars, drift wood and other sea treasures. We can learn how to use a clam rake and you may take home some of the bounty of the sea. Wear casual clothing and shoes that you can get wet. Water shoes or Teva type sandals are necessary to protect your feet from oyster shell and other sharp objects.

Places and Things to see

Working with the weather patterns, we can make a loop type trip, traveling through Core Sound between Shackelford Banks and Harker's Island to Cape Lookout, and returning along the ocean front to Beaufort Inlet. We can pass within site of the resting place of Balckbeard's flag ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, only 1 mile off shore of Fort Macon. Many variations of this route are possible and your trip will be tailored to your particular interests.
